“This spending deal is bad for Nassau County. It cuts nearly $30 million in direct support to my district, including funding for law enforcement, flood management, and fixing our roads. It will hurt health programs for Long Island veterans who were exposed to toxic substances and shamefully excludes a permanent funding fix to the World Trade Center Health Program.

“Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I am honored to represent the South Shore of Long Island in New York’s Fourth Congressional District. My district suffers from legacy water contamination, aging infrastructure, and unacceptable water quality issues that for too long have been neglected by the Federal government.

“The Republican spending bill on the Floor today is a bad deal for Nassau County. If the Senate adopts this bill, it would cut nearly $30 million in direct support to my district, including funding that helps our law enforcement agencies and fire departments keep Long Islanders safe. This bill would hurt health programs for Long Island veterans who were exposed to toxic substances during their service and shamefully fails to include a permanent funding fix to the World Trade Center Health Program. This bill is bad for my constituents and bad for Nassau County."

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) joined the House Oversight Committee for a hearing with “Sanctuary City” Mayors and questioned New York City Mayor Eric Adams on his mismanagement of the migrant crisis has left Long Islanders to pay the price. Gillen has previously called for Adams to do the right thing and resign, contending that his singular focus on his own self-interest has failed New Yorkers and jeopardized public safety in America’s largest city. Below is a full video of her question line and a transcript of her remarks: "What happens in New York City affects my constituents."

“I’m focused on the priorities that matter to Long Islanders: taking on our cost-of-living crisis, fixing our broken immigration system, and keeping our communities and law enforcement safe. These are bipartisan priorities for Americans. We need bipartisan solutions, just like the Laken Riley Act that President Trump signed into law earlier this year. I was proud to vote for the Laken Riley Act, and I’ll continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and the Administration on these pressing issues.

“Ricky Sanchez has dedicated his life to serving our country, first in the U.S. Army and then as an employee at the U.S. Customs and Immigration Services,” said Congresswoman Gillen. “Ricky was abruptly let go, despite the protections afforded to him as a veteran and stellar performance reviews, during DOGE’s chaotic round of firings earlier this month. The Administration abandoning veterans like Ricky is unacceptable. That’s why I joined the Protect Veteran Jobs Act to reinstate veterans indiscriminately fired by DOGE, and I’ll continue to stand up for Long Island’s veterans in Congress.”

“The Administration’s abrupt, unfounded decision to end Temporary Protected Status for Haitians will have a devastating impact on Long Island,” said Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04). “Our neighbors, who have been thoroughly vetted and contribute to our economy and our community, now face being sent back to certain, life-threatening danger. I’m thankful to my House colleagues for their bipartisan support on this crucial priority.”

“Today’s budget briefing was an important opportunity for Long Islanders to learn more about the budget process and hear directly from local experts about how the Majority’s budget would impact our communities,” said Rep. Gillen. “This budget would rip thousands of people from their health care, gut programs that my constituents count on, and raise costs for working families. I’ll always reach across the aisle when it means delivering results for Long Island, but I won’t support a bill that’s bad for Nassau County.”
