Gillen Applauds $240,000 in EPA Funding for Clean Drinking Water Security in Freeport
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Laura Gillen released the following statement announcing $240,000 in federal grant funding awarded to the Village of Freeport to enhance the safety and security of the Village’s drinking water supply:
“I am delighted to announce that that $240,000 in federal funding is headed to the Village of Freeport to enhance the safety and security of their drinking water supply. Everyone deserves access to clean water. Ensuring our drinking water is safe is a priority and I will continue to work with our local partners to bring federal dollars back home to build a healthier, safer Long Island.”
This funding is authorized through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF). It was requested by former Rep. Kathleen Rice (NY-04) and passed by Congress in the 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act. It will be used to replace existing cameras and install additional surveillance systems to support Freeport’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
