“After the horrific killings of American citizens by federal agents, it is clear that Congress must exert its power over DHS and rein in this unchecked agency. Other law enforcement agencies are expected to operate within the bounds of the law to prevent the abuse of power, and ICE must be held to those same standards.

Finneran and Fire Department Chief James Taunton, announced a $500,000 federal investment in the Edgemere Firehouse. Washington, DC – Congresswoman Laura Gillen (D-NY-04) and Congressman Nick Begich (R-AK-AL), members of both the House Transportation and Infrastructure and House Science, Space and Technology Committees, introduced the Aviation Weather Safety Improvement Act. This bipartisan bill would require the Director of the National Weather Service (NWS) to coordinate with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the representatives of air traffic controllers and NWS meteorologists, to ensure adequate staffing.

ELMONT, NY – Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) hosted a press conference with local leaders and advocates from Long Island's Haitian community to call on the Department of Homeland Security to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals before the February 3rd expiration. Rep. Gillen warned that allowing TPS to expire would tear Haitian families apart and force law-abiding, tax-paying members of the community, who have enriched Nassau County, to return to life-threatening danger in Haiti.
