Rep. Gillen Joins Orthodox Union Advocacy Center for Jewish Leadership Roundtable in West Hempstead

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY – Last week, Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) joined members of Orthodox Union Advocacy Center and Young Israel of West Hempstead for a community discussion focused on securing funding to protect synagogues and strengthening efforts to combat antisemitism.
“Here on Long Island, our Jewish communities have faced a deeply troubling rise in antisemitism and targeted attacks,” said Rep. Gillen. “Protecting synagogues and other religious institutions from hate and violence is a priority and that starts with making sure they have the tools and resources they need. I’m committed to strengthening and expanding the Non-Profit Security Grant Program so synagogues and other faith-based organizations can access critical support without delay.”
“We at the Orthodox Union Advocacy Center were pleased to convene leaders of our community in West Hempstead to meet with their new Representative, Laura Gillen,” said Executive Director of OU Advocacy Nathan Diament. “Rep. Gillen and local rabbis and leaders had a productive exchange of ideas and discussed priority issues affecting our community. In the first months of her freshman term in Congress, Rep. Gillen has been a great partner of OU Advocacy and our community and we look forward to continuing to deepen our relationship in service of our shared constituents.”
“The Congresswoman showed our community her sincere and unwavering support for the needs of our community,” said Young Israel of West Hempstead Rabbi Joshua Goller. “She shared her dedication to ensuring that our schools and synagogues receive proper grants to allow them to be safe spaces for learning and worship. We are so appreciative of her commitment and partnership.”
