Congresswoman Gillen Announces $350,000 Federal Security Grant for Congregation Sons of Israel in Woodmere; $2.25 Million to NY-04
WOODMERE, NY – Congresswoman Laura Gillen announced that Congregation Sons of Israel in Woodmere has been awarded $350,000 in federal funding through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP), part of a total of $2,250,000 awarded to houses of worship and nonprofits in New York’s Fourth Congressional District.
“Long Islanders must be safe in their houses of worship. I congratulate Congregation Sons of Israel for securing $350,000 in new federal security funding through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program,” said Congresswoman Gillen. “As we face an increase in antisemitism, hate and violent threats, I will continue to work with all our houses of worship to bring federal dollars back to Long Island and keep worshippers safe.”
“We were proud to welcome Congresswoman Gillen and are grateful for her support for the Jewish community and the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which has directly benefitted our congregation,” said Rabbi Steven Saks of Congregation Sons of Israel in Woodmere.
Rep. Gillen has supported increasing funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) and urged FEMA to make grants available after months of delay. In September, Gillen brought together interfaith religious leaders at Hofstra University to help prepare houses of worship in NY-04 to apply for NSGP funding later this year.
