WASHINGTON — Long Island Reps. Laura Gillen and Tom Suozzi voted Wednesday to help defeat a proposal to block U.S. aid for Israel’s military over the next fiscal year.

In doing so, they sided with the top Democrat in the U.S. House, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-Brooklyn). But they found themselves split off from dozens of progressives and other Democratic colleagues, reflecting expanding fissures within the party’s base about how to handle U.S. relations with Israel.


July 16, 2026

Congresswoman Laura Gillen has secured several key priorities and advanced $125 million in water project funding for Long Island in the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2026, the two-year water resources infrastructure investments package.

The package advanced out of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on a unanimous basis. Rep. Gillen’s priorities included bolstering flood risk management, storm damage prevention and coastal restoration in communities across New York’s 4th Congressional District, including in Freeport, Garden City and Long Beach.

Congresswoman Laura Gillen (D-NY-04), Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY-11), and Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY-17) urged President Donald Trump to secure justice and compensation for 9/11 victims and other Americans who have suffered from Iran’s state-sponsored terrorism through the U.S. Victims of State-Sponsored Terrorism Fund (USVSST Fund) as part of the ongoing negotiations over an agreement with Iran. More than 20,000 Americans currently hold unpaid judgments against perpetrators of state-sponsored terrorism, including Iran.

WASHINGTON — A permanent peace deal between the United States and Iran must prioritize payment of victim compensation claims tied to the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and other state-sponsored violence, three New York lawmakers wrote Wednesday to President Donald Trump.

The letter from Democratic Rep. Laura Gillen, of Rockville Centre, cosigned by Republican Reps. Nicole Malliotakis, of Staten Island, and Mike Lawler, of Pearl River, states these terror victims and their families are owed billions of dollars in judgments and damages that Iran has never paid.

Freeport is set to receive $1.1 million in federal funding to build a pump station to move water away from a flood-prone neighborhood near the Nautical Mile, officials said Tuesday.

The pump station will be built underground near Sea Breeze Park. Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy said the village's existing flood mitigation infrastructure there is flawed because bay water comes back through jam-prone pipes, flooding nearby homes.

Congresswoman Laura Gillen (D-NY-04) joined Congressman Dan Goldman (D-NY-10) and Congressman Mike Lawler (R-NY-17) in introducing the bipartisan Jewish American Security Act (H.R. 9211), to strengthen federal efforts to counter antisemitism in the United States and protect Jewish Americans. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and James Lankford (R-OK) lead the companion legislation in the Senate.


June 12, 2026

Rep. Laura Gillen has introduced bipartisan legislation to rename the U.S. Post Office on Atlantic Avenue in Oceanside in honor of Detective Luis G. Alvarez, an NYPD detective and 9/11 responder who died in 2019 from cancer linked to his work at ground zero.

The bill would designate the facility at 80 Atlantic Ave. as the "Detective Luis G. Alvarez Post Office."

Reps. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and Laura Gillen (D-NY) this week introduced the Student Protection and University Accountability Act, which aims to compel schools to institute clear policies for addressing antisemitism and other forms of discrimination under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, or face losing their federal funding if they fail to do so.

The Cost of Living Tax Cut Act would require Uncle Sam to tailor income tax brackets to the cost of living in each region of the country.
