Rep. Gillen Statement on the SAVE Act
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) released the following statement after voting NO on the SAVE Act.
"The SAVE Act would make it harder for millions of American citizens to exercise their right to register and cast their vote – which is why I voted “No” on this bill last year and will vote “No” again today.
"It is my position that only American citizens should vote in American elections and I oppose any effort to allow noncitizens to vote in any American election. Our right to vote is sacred and must be protected. However, the SAVE Act would force states to hand over election data to Sec Kristi Noem and it adds unnecessary costs and red tape for millions wishing to cast their ballots.
"This bill would suppress voters’ fundamental access to the ballot box and Congress must reject this blatant attempt to disenfranchise Americans."
