Gillen Statement on House Passage of Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act

January 9, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) released the following statement after voting for H.R. 23, the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act:

“I was proud to join a bipartisan majority of my colleagues in opposing the ICC’s biased efforts to target Israel and threaten the United States and our allies’ national sovereignty. Israel has every right to defend itself against Hamas, and it is vital that we continue our work with our partners worldwide to reject these biased efforts to undermine our ally. Neither the United States or Israel is a party to the Rome Statute, and this groundless case sets a dangerous precedent. I urge the incoming Administration to hold the ICC Chief Prosecutor accountable and secure commitments from our partners that they will reject the ICC’s warrants against Israel’s senior leadership.”
