Gillen Statement on House Passage of GOP Rescissions Package

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 4, which clawed back $9 billion in funds previously approved by Congress: 

“Once again the House GOP passed partisan legislation in the dead of night that threatens our national security and global health and does nothing to lower the cost of living or make Americans safer. 

“Instead, in passing the rescission bill the House GOP have again surrendered to the Administration by approving its clawback of funds already appropriated by Congress and undermining Congress’ constitutional power of the purse.

“While my colleagues on the other side of the aisle claim these cuts are necessary in the name of so-called ‘fiscal responsibility’, the price tag of these dangerous rescissions is a mere fraction of the $4 trillion they added to the national debt just weeks ago. The American people deserve better than this hypocrisy.”
