Gillen Secures Key Wins for Long Island in Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025
WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) released the following statement after the House passage of H.R. 4275, the bipartisan Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025, which includes her provisions to improve navigation in the East Rockaway Inlet off of the South Shore of Long Island and to strengthen maritime drug enforcement.
“I’m proud to see this bipartisan bill pass with my provisions to keep boaters safe in the East Rockaway Inlet, strengthen our national security and support the brave men and women I represent at Coast Guard Station Jones Beach,” said Rep. Gillen. “Our Coast Guardsmen are on the front lines protecting our maritime security and this bill will ensure they have the resources to stop drug traffickers and keep Americans safe.”
Gillen delivered remarks on the House Floor in support of H.R. 4275. A full clip of her remarks can be found here.
Under Section 283 of this bill, Rep. Gillen’s provision would require the Commandant of the Coast Guard to examine and report to Congress with concrete recommendations to address hazards in the East Rockaway Inlet, as well as present a plan to update the aids-to-navigation.
The bill also includes H.R. 2351, bipartisan legislation Rep. Gillen led with her colleague, Rep. Addison McDowell (NC-06), to help the Coast Guard fight the opioid epidemic.
