Gillen Secures $42 Million in Funding for Nassau Inter-County Express Bus Replacements, Station Upgrades in Rockville Centre
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Laura Gillen released the following statement announcing $42 million in federal grant funding awarded to Nassau County and the Village of Rockville Centre for the Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) Bus to purchase modern, low-emission buses and rehabilitate the County bus facility in Rockville Centre. Gillen met with Federal Transit Authority (FTA) Administrator Marc Molinaro earlier this year to directly push for this critical funding, emphasizing how these improvements will benefit Long Island families and grow the region’s economy:
“I am delighted to help deliver $42 million in federal grant funding to Nassau County that will help upgrade the NICE bus fleet and make station improvements to the County facility. Improving transportation options and reliability will directly benefit families, residents and businesses across Long Island’s South Shore,” said Rep. Gillen. “I’m proud to advocate for Long Islanders on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and will continue to work with our local partners to bring federal dollars back home to Nassau County.”
The Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) is a major suburban transit system serving residents of New York’s Fourth Congressional District on Long Island and connecting to Queens County. The funding secured by Rep. Gillen is authorized through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The grant would be used to replace 28 buses at the end of their useful lives with modern, compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and rehabilitate the County’s bus facility in the Village of Rockville Centre.
