Gillen: “Federal Grant Freeze Jeopardizes Law Enforcement; Threatens Long Islanders’ Safety”

January 28, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) released the following statement in response to an Office of Management and Budget memo that would pause all federal grants and loans:

“I am deeply concerned by the Administration’s recent order to suspend federal grants and loan disbursements, which would have a devastating impact on the safety and wellbeing of my constituents on Long Island. This hastily-ordered freeze could slash funding for local police and fire departments, threatening the safety of our communities and the safety of the law enforcement officers that bravely serve and protect Nassau County every day.

“I've reached out to the Administration and urged them to issue new guidance specifically clarifying that vital funding for law enforcement, first responders, counterterrorism, and public safety will not be impacted. The threats to our communities on Long Island are too serious to be taken lightly and I will continue to fight to protect the bipartisan public safety investments that Nassau County’s communities count on.”
