Gillen Blasts GOP Attempts to Slash Medicaid

May 7, 2025

New nonpartisan analysis shows that up to 22.2 million Americans could lose full or partial health care coverage under GOP’s budget plan

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) released the following statement after the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released a new analysis showing that proposed GOP cuts to Medicaid would result could result in up to 22.2 million Americans losing full or partial health care coverage:

“Today’s nonpartisan analysis by the Congressional Budget Office confirms that the Majority’s budget plans will lead to millions of Americans losing their health care coverage and a country-wide spike in health care costs.

"These cuts would devastate Nassau County: turning out seniors from nursing homes, raising costs for working families, and ripping veterans away from their health care. Even those not covered by Medicaid would face longer wait times and service reductions. Cost-of-living remains a top concern for Long Island families. We should be working to bring down costs and strengthen access to health care, not ripping it away from the children, seniors, and veterans on Long Island who count on Medicaid to access the life-saving care they need.”
