Rep. Gillen Statement on Department of Homeland Security Funding Bill

March 5, 2026

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) released a statement following her opposition to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill:

“After the killing of American citizens by federal agents and chaos in the streets, it’s clear Congress must exert its power over DHS and rein in its ICE division. We must reach a bipartisan compromise to enact greater reforms and accountability while funding FEMA, Coast Guard and other important DHS departments. I continue to support the accountability measures in this bill; however, following Alex Pretti’s killing, it is clear ICE needs greater guardrails. Secretary Noem’s removal from DHS, which I proudly called for, will help ensure future reforms are properly enacted.”
